A love of people and supporting their well-being is the foundation from which Ian Lowe, the Physician’s Assistant at the Center of Surgical Treatment of Obesity at St. Mary works. He plays an integral part in patient care by assisting the physician prior to surgery with consultations and reviewing and writing orders, obtaining tests and lab values, discussing the procedure with the patient and generally being an additional set of eyes and ears for the doctor. Ian is adept at identifying any potential concerns and relaying them to the physician. During surgery, Ian assists throughout the procedure and does follow-up later with the patient. He shared, “The joy of my work is not only seeing the amazing physical changes and the improved health following weight loss surgery, but also observing the tremendous boost in self-esteem and confidence that patient’s have. They’re like butterflies coming out of their cocoon – the transformation is rewarding to behold just knowing that you played a small part in it. Patients get a new lease on life which makes the surgery very worthwhile!”
