What Is The Adjustable Banding System?

The Adjustable Banding System allows for minimally invasive weight loss surgery. This procedure induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach without stapling or cutting the digestive system. This procedure features an adjustable silicone ring that is inserted laparoscopically, and placed around the upper part of the stomach. An access port allows the surgeon to adjust the inner surface by adding or removing saline. The Adjustable Banding procedure is safe, and as effective as gastric bypass with fewer risks. It creates a new, smaller upper stomach pouch and leaves the larger part of the stomach below. This new upper pouch can only hold a small amount of food, so patients feel full sooner and are not hungry between meals. Long-term complications are minimal with results that are competitive with major bariatric surgery.
